From preparation to finished surface

The photos show a shower clad in narrow blue-gray glazed tile laid in an offset brick pattern. The glaze varies from tile to tile, giving the walls a handmade look. A long recessed niche is framed with brass-toned trim, and the shower has a square rain head, a hand shower on a slide bar and a smaller niche in the corner wall.

Narrow plank tile shows every wave in a wall, so the substrate has to be flat and the offset has to be planned so joints do not drift as the rows climb. Niches are framed and waterproofed before tile, and their size is best set to whole or evenly cut tile rows. Trim finish, niche size and waterproofing details are confirmed for each project.

Installation details to note

  1. Narrow blue-gray plank tile is laid in an offset brick pattern on all visible shower walls.
  2. A long recessed niche is trimmed with brass-toned metal edging.
  3. A second, smaller niche sits in the adjoining wall below the shower controls.
  4. The tile rows run level to the ceiling, with the glaze variation spread across the walls.
